The Kindergarten program is designed in such a way that it truly supports the essence of a holistic approach to learning. With the opportunity to explore Work Stations in the morning and afternoon, the students monitor their learning by navigating through a variety of ‘play-based’ activities of their choice. The educator’s role within the classroom is to guide their students through the learning process while supporting and improving their personal/social skills within the classroom. The learning environment is typically set up so the students are able to transition from one activity to the next in a fluid manner, regulating their own needs throughout the day.
A holistic approach to learning is further supported by the collaboration of both students and educators in regards to lessons and content. Below are two examples of activities/lessons I have used with my students that support a holistic approach to learning, targeting their intellectual, emotional, physical and spiritual selves.
